Construction is in Gerry’s family DNA as his dad, both brothers and two of his sons work within the industry. He joined Kind & Company in 2016 and for the past 3 years has been leading the Pre-Construction Department, building a new team for the challenges ahead.
Prior to this he amassed over 35 years experience in the industry, having started as a Trainee Site Manager, becoming a Site Manager and eventually company Director. Gerry later co-founded two other construction companies which still continue to trade without his involvement.
The primary roles of the Pre-Construction Department at Kind & Company are estimating, design coordination, planning, buildability and assessing the viability of a project before delivering a realistically costed scheme for clients’ consideration. If accepted, Pre-Construction will then interface with the client-side advisors to handover the project to our delivery team. This maintains a clear line of continuity and ensures investigations undertaken at the early stages are communicated.
Gerry has a proven track record of leading and motivating teams to deliver schemes to the highest levels of workmanship by encouraging everyone to take ownership of projects. Also, by facilitating training opportunities to improve and implement new skills, the next generation of apprentices are equipped for future challenges.
Education and training played a major part in his career, having worked with Loughborough University in 2008-9 where he contributed to a study of off-site manufacturing in construction, followed by a Knowledge Transfer Partnership which won an Enterprise award in 2010.
In 2006, Gerry was invited by a Further Education college to give a workshop on foundations design. This led to lecturing post presenting level 3 to 6 in the Built Environment.
He was awarded Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB) in 2012. ‘My mum insisted I went to the ceremony and bring her along, as she has listened to enough building chatter over the years and wanted to see what all the fuss was about’. Since 2014, Gerry has been a member of the CIOB Professional Review Member Panel.
Gerry has some homework of his own, currently renovating a Grade II listed thatched cottage in Northamptonshire. He is a keen gardener, following the organic priniples he has started an office chilli growing challenge with his development team.
