After 250 miles of training in eight weeks and just a day after our Employee Briefing, Communications Manager, Phil Polley completed his fourth overnight SHINE walking marathon to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The 26.2 mile route started in Southwark Park and after meandering around the capital’s highlights, finished by the Thames at Old Billingsgate.
Crossing the start line at 8.20pm on a warm dry night, Phil completed the route 8 hours and 46 minutes later at just after 5am – longer than last year’s wet 8hr09, but as Phil says, “it was warm, it was London … what’s the rush?” Money raised this year totals about £800, which means including the 2015 half marathon, Phil’s supporters have donated over £4500 for CRUK in the last four years.
The event attracted over 10,000 walkers and is expected to raise over £3.5M.
