Yesterday construction work paused on our site at The Margaret Thatcher Infirmary (Royal Hospital Chelsea) as the annual Founder’s Day Parade took place within the historic grounds of the hospital. This annual event was truly a memorable occasion and one which our site team were privileged to be invited to attend.
Founder’s Day takes place every year around the same date and is an occasion that honours the Royal Hospital Chelsea’s founder King Charles II. The day is also known as ‘Oak Apple Day’ which marks the birthday and the date of the restoration of King Charles II. The story behind the Oak Apple symbolises the future King’s escape after the Battle of Worcester in 1651 when he hid in an oak tree, evading capture by the Parliamentary forces and to this day, this historic event is honoured by the Chelsea Pensioners who sport oak trees leaves on their iconic vibrant scarlet uniforms.
It was a gloriously sunny day yesterday and the team were honoured to attend the ceremony and be a part of this fantastic and important event for our client and the Pensioners. Thank you Royal Hospital Chelsea for our invitation!
Today we continue with our project on site which consists of the refurbishment of the Infirmary, to bring the Pensioners with new healthcare facilities including, new medical centre provision and dementia wards.
